Over in an instant: HustlerGrune wins Sunday Warm-up

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgDespite the national holiday weekend for the American rounders, 3,780 players were near a computer to put down $215 for the $750,000 guaranteed Sunday Warm-Up thus pumping up the prize pool to $756,000.

Team PokerStars Pro Hevad "RaiNKhaN" Khan was going strong after getting into the money and got his 270,000 worth of tournament chips in the middle with pocket aces against queens, but a lady on the flop ended his day in 130th place ($831.60). Hevad's finish was a far cry from the amounts the final nine played for tonight, including a six-figure payday of $118,692 for the winner.

1$ickDisea$E captured a win in the $215 Mixed Hold Em' two weeks ago and is already assured of eclipsing the $3,700.00 won. teacuppoker walked away with over $80K after making the final table of the SCOOP Main Event Hi buy-in tourney last month (see the live blog here http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/scoop/2009/scoop-event-22-high-10300-nlhe-main-even-038430.html) and was shooting to improve on that score tonight but had to settle for 15th place. BKiCE notched $13,150.80 for fourth place last week in the weekly $320 NLHE tourney but had to settle for being the final table bubble boy tonight when his [Qs][Js] could not out run the huge chip leader BAnAnIEBAnAn's [As][9h] on the [Ks] [2c] [8c] [3c] [7s] board taking home $4,536.00 for tenth and setting up our final table below:

Seat 1: HustlerGrune (5054122 in chips)
Seat 2: gsbets (2410624 in chips)
Seat 3: 1$ickDisea$E (3597611 in chips)
Seat 4: BAnAnIEBAnAn (9926845 in chips)
Seat 5: G8vMyLfeAway (5083188 in chips)
Seat 6: Kaerm (2085901 in chips)
Seat 7: erot1 (4854500 in chips)
Seat 8: megas (2070103 in chips)
Seat 9: Ruguebye (2717106 in chips)

BAnAnIEBAnAn came into the final table with nearly twice as many chips as G8vMyLfeAway and HustlerGrune. megas was the first recipient of a double up, taking most of 1$ickDisea$E's stack when megas' [Ah][As] held up over the big slick [Ks][Ac] of 1$ickDisea$E leaving the Supernova with under four big blinds as they started over at 65,000/130,000 ante 13,000. No worries though for his railbirds, as 1$ickDisea$E would double up three times in the next ten hands to become solvent again.

gsbets was one of the victims of 1$ickDisea$e's comeback, and was blinded down to 1.4 million chips when facing the third consecutive preflop raise by erot1 while holding pocket eights [8d][8h] in the small blind. A choice to shove over the top of the aggressive erot1 seemed like the right play until erot1 snap called with pocket rockets [Ac][Ah]. After erot1 flopped his set and turned a boat on the [As] [Ts] [Jc] [Jd] [Qs] board, it was time to bid gsbets farewell in ninth place ($6,048.00).

With the blinds increasing to 80,000/160,000 ante 16,000 the smaller stacks got an itch to take their battles preflop. Kaerm sitting on two million in chips decided to take pocket ducks [2s][2d] swimming in the deep end of the pool, open shoving all-in from one off the cutoff. Once again, pocket rockets [As][Ad] appeared in the caller's hand. This time HustlerGrune made the easiest call in poker out of the big blind. HustlerGrune would make an unnecessary broadway straight after the [Qd] [Tc] [Kc] [6d] [Jc] board played out awarding 4.3 millon chips to HustlerGrune, and $9,450.00 to Kaerm in eighth place.

At the break, BAnAnIEBAnAn still held a comfortable chip lead as the players returned to 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000 blinds:

Seat 1: HustlerGrune (5477585 in chips)
Seat 3: 1$ickDisea$E (2210183 in chips)
Seat 4: BAnAnIEBAnAn (11036487 in chips)
Seat 5: G8vMyLfeAway (5430413 in chips)
Seat 7: erot1 (5136873 in chips)
Seat 8: megas (4124096 in chips)
Seat 9: Ruguebye (4384363 in chips)

Ten hands after returning from the break 1$ickDisea$E's ticket was punched not by the swine flu, but HustlerGrune. Check out the seventh place ($17,010.00) finisher's wild ride through the [As] [Jd] [8d] [Th] [9s] board:

With the 4.5 million chip pot, HustlerGrune topped the nine million chip mark nearing the stack of chip leader BAnAnIEBAnAn's total, as the rest of the table hovered around the mid-four million chip mark.

As the blinds rose to 125,000/250,000 ante 25,000 blind steals were often met with all-in three bets as six pots in a row were worth over one million chips, and the aggressive erot1 making off with three of those six pots.

Eventually, one of those three-bet all-in plays was going to get called, and Ruguebye was the victim. megas cut out a 588,555 chip raise from the button and Ruguebye decide to opt for the popular three-bet all-in with [8s] [7c]. The middling cards were well behind the [Ac][Qc] that HustlerGrune called with in and covered from the big blind as megas meekly made for the exit door. This one was over by the turn as HustlerGrune would fill up by the river [Qd] [Ks] [9d] [9c] [Qh] and send home Ruguebye in sixth place ($24,570.00).

Maybe because the $5.50 Omaha H/L Ante Up tourney was starting or pizza was at the door that caused the remaining five to finish in a shade under ten minutes, but the action was just that quick.

First erot1 knocked out most of BAnAnIEBAnAn's chip stack when erot1's pocket jacks [Jd] [Jh] held up against BAnAnIEBAnAn's [As][Qc] for a 14 million chip pot. Then on the very next hand another all-in preflop confrontation took place. This time megas with just 2.6 million left shoved with pocket fours [4c][4d] in the small blind over the top of G8vMyLfeAway's opening 585,000 chip raise. No pocket aces this time as G8vMyLfeAway flipped up [Ad][8c] for the coin flip that ended quickly on the [Qs] [Ah] [9d] [2c] [Th] board. megas added a very large haul of $32,130.00 for the fifth place finish.

Three hands later it was G8vMyLfeAway's tournament life on the line against HustlerGrune. Watch the action play out below:

The two outer nine on the river was worth 15 million chips for HustlerGrune and $43,470.00 in fourth place for G8vMyLfeAway.

No time to discuss a chop? Not when you finish places four through first in back-to-back-to-back hands.

Even Team PokerStars Pro Chad Brown who was filling in as the MC this evening quipped how quickly we finished up.

With just 2.8 million chips left, facing an all-in raise from mega-stacked HustlerGrune, and paying the 250K big blind, BAnAnIEBAnAn decided the dealt pocket threes [3c] [3s] were worth a gamble. The gamble looked great as HustlerGrune flipped up [2c][Kd], but HustlerGrune would flop a second king and turn two pair on the [6h] [8s] [Ks] [2d] [4s] board as the final table beginning chip leader would post a strong third place finish tonight earning $62,370.00

No time to catch your breath around here as all the money went in AGAIN pre-flop for the third hand in a row. Watch as HustlerGrune's preflop advantage over erot1 hold for the win:

The ladies held up for HustlerGrune claiming this week's Sunday Warm-up Champion title and $118,692.00 for the win, as erot1's strong aggressive play earned $88,452.00 tonight as the runner-up.

It is our hope the players took a couple of seconds to admire their new found wealth before hopping perhaps into some WSOP sats as the race for seats to the WSOP Main Event heat up.

Congratulations to all our final table participants tonight and check back tomorrow on PokerStars.TV for the Sunday Warm-up wrap show to take you behind the cards to some of the steals and re-steal we were not privy to tonight.

28h@ndsl@ter charges to victory in Sunday Warm-Up

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgAnother Sunday, another couple million dollars on the line in the PokerStars Sunday Guaranteed Tournaments. This Sunday saw a lengthy final table bubble in the warm up turn into a quick final table, and a four-way deal among the last players standing locked up a healthy payday for everybody. Then, with ten grand on the table, we saw 28h@ndsl@ter come from third out of four remaining to snag the title and the extra $10,000 cash! 3,702 players in total put their cash on the line this week in the Sunday Warm-Up, and 540 of them took down their piece of the $750,000 prize pool. After a solid seven hours of poker, the final table started off pretty slowly, as the players picked their spots and waited to get their money in ahead.

warmup 5.17.09.jpg

Unfortunately, sometimes getting your money in ahead isn't enough, as mkind0516 learned to his chagrin when his aces got cracked by pearldam's pocket eights in the first big confrontation of the final table. Pearldam raised preflop from middle position and mkind0516 quickly shoveled all in over the top with pocket aces from the cutoff. The board looked good for mkind0516 as it ran out 5c-3d-Qs-6c, but the 8h on the river was the two-outer pearldam needed to send mkind0516 packing with a $6,000 consolation prize for his 9th-place finish.

8th place went to torowe when he picked an unfortunate time to go for a steal from the cutoff. Torowe raised preflop with [5c]-[4c], and when 28h@ndsl@ter moved all in over the top torowe was pot-committed and in troubled with 28h@ndsl@ter tabled his [Ah]-[Ac]. The suspense went out of the hand right on the flop, as 28h@ndsl@ter flopped top set on a board of [Kh]-[4d]-[Ad]. The turn and river ran out [Td]-[4s] to make trips for torowe, not enough to stand against 28h@ndsl@ter's full house. Torowe collected $9,375 for his 8th-place finish.

Die by Big Slick, live by Big Slick must have been the motto of INW85. After losing a chunk of his stack running A-K into pocket kings early in the final table, he made a huge comeback when he busted schakal in 7th place ($16,875) in this hand:

Freshern lost a massive pot to pearldam that left him with less than one big blind, so it was no surprise when the remnants of his stack went in the middle on the next hand. He got four-way action as daskalos20, INW85 and 28h@ndsl@ter all limped in. The live players checked down the board of [2d]-[6c]-[8c]-[9c] untilINW85 led out at the turn. His live opponents folded, and he showed [9h]-[10c], which made the four-flush on the river when the 2c came down. Freshern's [Kh]-[4h] was no good as he headed to the virtual rail $24,375 richer for his 6th-place finish.

It wasn't long after freshern headed off that SgtSaLT moved all in from early position with [Ac]-[8c]. Daskalos20 woke up in the small blind with [As]-[Qs] and quickly called, and SgtSaLT had some catching up to do. The flop was no help as it came down [3d]-[2s]-[4s], and when the [3s] hit the turn, SgtSaLT was drawing dead. The irrelevant [7c] came on the river, as SgtSaLT picked up $31,875 for 5th place.

The remaining four players then took a few minutes to discuss a deal based on chip counts, and after a few moments of higher math, the following payouts were locked up based on chip counts: chip leader INW85 took down $89,681, runner-up pearldam took down $83,335, 3rd place 28h@ndsl@ter got $68,090 and short stack daskalos20 secured a $59,392 payday. With $10,000 still up for grabs, the remaining four players exchanged congratulations and settled in to resume battle.

It took a few hands, but 28h@ndsl@ter moved one step closer the to that extra $10K when he took out daskalos20 in 4th place. All the money went in preflop, and daskalos20 was way behind with pocket eights to 28h@ndsl@ter's pocket queens. Nothing out of the ordinary happened on the board, and daskalos20's run was over with the guaranteed $59,392 as a result of the deal.

The pot of the tournament saw INW85 lose most of his stack to 28h@ndsl@ter when he ran into 28h@nds' aces. INW85 stuck around a little longer, but finally moved the last of his chips in preflop with [Qc]-[Jc], only to find himself running smack into aces again, this time in the hands of pearldam. The board ran out [Tc]-[8h]-[7s]-[Js]-[3c], and pearldam faded all those river outs to send INW85 home with his guaranteed $89,681.

INW85's ouster in 3rd place meant that 28h@ndsl@ter and pearldam were playing heads up for $10,000 cash, as each player had already locked up a very nice payday. Their heads up confrontation didn't last long, as it was only a couple hands into heads up play when this hand put an end to the tournament.

When the dust settled, pearldam's 2nd-place finish was worth $83,335 and 28h@ndsl@ter came from behind to add the extra $10,000 to his payout, making him a $78,090 winner on the day. Congrats to 28h@ndsl@ter and everyone who cashed in this week's Sunday Warm-Up!

Score one for the Dutch: Dutchvinny wins Sunday Warm-Up

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgWe're sure the final nine people playing the Sunday Warm-up tonight got their good luck kisses from mom before sitting down for over eight hours to get to the big money. With first prize sitting at $117,750.00 it would a long way towards giving mom a Mother's Day present aside from the usual potted plant from the local grocery store.

3,447 runners tonight meant PokerStars was footing the bill to attain the $750,000 guaranteed prize pool and assure the field at least one six-figure winner (unless of course they chop it up...). If you have not checked out the Sunday Warm-up Online Poker Show here at PokerStarsBlog, here's last week's edition:

Tonight's final table action started after 7722ds failed to slide pocket queens [Qh][Qd] past final table chip leader Iftarii's [2s] [Ah] when a tournament crushing ace hit the river on this board [Jd] [Kh] [9d] [Js] [Ac] to start up the final nine shown below:

SunWarmUp051009.jpg

Seat 1: Iftarii (11507963 in chips)
Seat 2: Jan2000 (3281704 in chips)
Seat 3: gettn deep (2500220 in chips)
Seat 4: JBlaze20 (2115762 in chips)
Seat 5: FrandsenDK (4613818 in chips)
Seat 6: ggdj (1218168 in chips)
Seat 7: Dutchvinny (3490258 in chips)
Seat 8: rd4aces (4597771 in chips)
Seat 9: wastar$ (1144336 in chips)

gettn deep got a little deeper tonight after calling ggdj's 913,168 chip shove from middle position in the big blind. Big slick [Ks][As] for gettn deep and ggdj was looking for a jack holding [Js] [Ad]. ggdj would find a jack on the flop, but sadly a king was nestled right next to it as the board ran out [Jd] [Kh] [8h] [9d] [5c] in favor of gettn deep for the two million chip pot. Ninth place and a straight six thousand dollars were shipped for ggdj's effort tonight.

Shortly after ggdj's departure, JBlaze20 and wastar$ would enjoy double-ups. Then gettn deep knocked down a few towers of Iftarii's chips when pocket tens [Td] [Ts] were no match for gettn deep's pocket kings [Ks] [Kc], and after the board showed kings full of nines nearly seven million chips went in the direction of gettn deep's pretty puppy avatar.

With blinds at 80,000/160,000 ante 16,000 the action folded around to wastar$ in the cutoff sitting on 1.6 million chips and holding pocket eights [8s] [8d]. A shove was the play, and might have worked for the blinds, but Jan2000 was going nowhere with pocket jacks [Jh] [Jc]. After the [5c] [4c] [Tc] flop wastar$ outs went from slim to slimmer, and the [Kc] on the turn sealed the eighth place finisher's fate when Jan2000 hit a four card flush earning $9,375.00 tonight.

Chop talks started up over the break after the latest bust out but FrandsenDK squashed the talks and paid the price to the chop karma gods as shown in the hand below against JBlaze20:

RSS readers click through to see replay

After losing the coin flip FrandsenDK got the stated seventh place of $16,875.00 that was requested.

JBlaze20 was not done there as a five million chip pot went in the same direction five hands later trimming even more chips off the chip leader Iftarii. Then, while the six players were ready to discuss chip chop numbers, JBlaze20 and rd4aces got their chip stacks into the middle preflop after trading preflop raises back and forth with blinds at 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000:

JBlaze20: [Qs] [As]
rd4aces: [Ad] [Kd]

Both players held sparkly suited cards but big slick was well ahead until the [Qh] hit the all-heart flop and the rest of the [Qh] [2h] [5h] [5s] [9c] board played out without reversal. rd4aces didn't get the king, but did receive $24,375.00 to pick up mom that Honda Prelude with Bose sound system and running neon lights she always wanted.

The players decided to take a look at the chop numbers but quickly went back to work now that JBlaze20's stack doubled the rest of the table and JBlaze20's slice of the pie was too much for them to eat. Dutchvinny got to work right away after the game resumed and doubled up off Jan2000 when the flop granted a straight to Dutchvinny's [9c][Qc] and overcame Jan2000's [Kh] [Ad] for the third consecutive five million plus chip pot.

Iftarii fell into hard times starting with picking off a blind versus blind bluff from Dutchvinny. Holding [Kh][Td] Iftarii would make the call of Dutchvinny's small blind shove covering by 1.6 million. Dutchvinny exposed [2s][Qc] and Iftarii had sights of the five million chip pot being shipped in a northern direction, but the winds of the board blew to the west when the board [3c] [7d] [7h] [7c] [2h] showed that two on the river. The very next hand Iftarii would attempt to use the power of deuce-queen against Jan2000 but this time the better hand [5s] [Ad] would hold on the [7h] [6s] [5c] [Kc] [6d] board and Iftarii's starting big stack would have to settle for fifth place ($31,875.00).

Dutchvinny would win a race against JBlaze20 and even up the chip counts a bit, but the players did not return to the negotiation tables with the four-handed stacks showing below:

Seat 2: Jan2000 (11338640 in chips)
Seat 3: gettn deep (7110776 in chips)
Seat 4: JBlaze20 (7767448 in chips)
Seat 7: Dutchvinny (8253136 in chips)

But after thirteen more hands of four-handed play, the four horsemen of the final table attempted to ride into a chop agreement again. After Jan2000 agreed to trim a little off the quoted price from StaffMikeJ for JBlaze20 and gettn deep we had a deal!
Jan2000: $84,309.00
Dutchvinny: $72,259.00
JBlaze20: $73,512.00
gettn deep: $70,418.00

No six figure winner tonight, but there would be a small matter of $10,000.00 left aside for this week's Sunday Warm-up champion and maybe a round trip ticket to Maui for mom.

Jan2000's stack would take a decent whack from Dutchvinny after getting tens into the middle against Dutchvinny's pocket jacks. Then, after three consecutive wins by Dutchvinny, Jan2000 would get the 3.7 million leftover chips into the middle preflop once again against Dutchvinny in this hand:

RSS readers click through to see replay The quad aces were a bit of overkill, but effectively ended Jan2000's night in fourth place ($84,309.00).

Call it a streak or being a card rack but Dutchvinny already holding nearly four times the amount of second place gettn deep would knock out JBlaze20 in third place. Raising from the button to 750,000 Dutchvinny faced a 2.1 million chip three-bet from JBlaze20 sitting in the small blind. Holding [Ah] [Ks] and 16 million chips behind made the decision easy to push JBlaze20 all-in. JBlaze20 did not get a race with the [Kh][Qd] in his hand, and after the [Kc] [4h] [5s] [3s] [8c] board ran off, JBlaze20 went down in glory with the chopped third place money ($73,512.00).

To gettn deep's credit heads-up play started with large blinds set at 150,000/300,000 ante 30,000 and Dutchvinny sitting on a sizable chip lead shown below:

Seat 3: gettn deep (5940776 in chips)
Seat 7: Dutchvinny (28529224 in chips)

The battle would last approximately twenty hands before this dirty little river sent a big pile of chips flying in someone's direction:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Dutchvinny's inside straight and flush draw got there with the rivered [8d], and Dutchvinny got the title of Sunday Warm-up champion and the extra $10,000 set aside from the deal. gettn deep got as deep as one could possible hope for in a MTT field of 3,447 players, and will reap the rewards from the deal as tonight's runner-up ($70,418.00).

Congrats to Dutchvinny on a well-earned victory and to all of our final table players tonight, as stated above please check out the Sunday Warm-up Online Poker Show at PokerStars.TV for the replay.

sirpietah captures top spot in Sunday Warm-Up

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

sunday-warmup-promo1.jpg The Sunday Warm-Up continued the streak of exploded guarantees this week as 4,176 players created a whopping $835,200 prize pool. No overlays here, folks! The field thinned pretty quickly as well, with the last nine standing locking up their final table spots barely more than eight hours after the tournament kicked off. After a tough final table and an interesting experiment in poker globalization, sirpietah took down the title and the $121,692.93 top prize (result of a deal when heads up play commenced).
warmup 5.3.09.jpg
Marwetz was the final table bubble boy when he busted in 10th place, one shy of the big table but still good for a $5,011 payday. Play at the final table kicked off slowly as players transitioned from short-handed play to the full table, but after a couple of orbits of "raise and take it" poker, we had our first big confrontation. RalsLe came into the final table as the shortest of the short stack, but picked up several pots early to move back into the thick of things. RalsLe made a stand with pocket eights after UNoWho11 went for a steal from the hijack with [9s]-[8c]. RalsLe's eights held up and he moved up among the chip leaders.

All nine players made it to the first break of the final table, but their must have been a few Red Bulls consumed on break, because the players came back with more raises and three-bets than we'd seen yet. Just a few hands back from break, UNoWho11 moved all in preflop with [7h]-[7d]. Plasticard moved all in over the top to isolate from the cutoff, and when everyone else folded, his pocket queens were revealed. The board ran out an unhelpful (for UNoWho11) [8h]-[8s]-[Ac]-[4c]-[6d], and UNoWho11 was the first casualty of the final table, picking up $6,681.61 for 9th place.

Whatever was in the water was still in effect a few hands later, because we had another quick all in confrontation. I_DESTROY_U limped in from the button with [As]-[3h], and sirpietah completed his small blind. Dardan0s checked the option from the big blind, and the flop came down [Ks]-[4d]-[6c]. Action checked around to I_DESTROY_U on the button, and he fired out a bet. Sirpietah got out of the way, and Dardan0s raised. I_DESTROY_U re-raised enough to put Dardan0s all in, and Dardan0s made the call with [5s]-[3d] for the up and down straight draw. I_DESTROY_U was ahead with ace-high, and when the turn and river came down [8d]-[Th], that was the end of Daradan0s, who pocketed $10,440.01 for 8th place.

Sometimes in a poker game you find yourself ahead preflop, with all the money in the middle, and then you improve on every street. It doesn't happen often, but it's sure nice when it does. That's what happened when I_DESTROY_U finally ended ralsLe's final table run in 7th place ($18,793.01).

Play slowed considerably after RalsLe's exit, with almost a full level passing before another elimination. Plasticard nursed his short stack for as long as he could before finally moving all in with [Jc]-[Jh]. Big stack lbh26 called with [Ad]-[5d], and an ace in the window spelled doom for plasticard. The final board read [As]-[9c]-[Kc]-[8h]-[9s], and plasticard busted in 6th place ($27,144.01). Mere seconds later the field was four-handed, as delaney_kid busted in 5th place at the hands of sirpietah, who solidified his chip lead at the expense of delaney_kid. As becomes the case late in most big tournaments, all the money went in preflop, and it was a coin toss as sirpietah showed [9d]-[9h] to delaney_kid's [As]-[Kd]. The flop was no help to either player as it came down [4s]-[6d]-[4h], and the turn was another blank, the [Qd]. Delaney_kid needed one of six outs on the river to stay alive, and the [3c] was not one of them. His 5th-place finish was worth $35,496.01.

I_DESTROY_U certainly lived up to his moniker at the final table, but finally his run of knockouts was ended by the chip monster sirpietah. I_DESTROY_U moved all in from the button with [Ks]-[10c], and sirpietah called out of the small blind with [As]-[7c]. The [Ac] was the first card off the deck as the flop came down [Ac]-[4c]-[5h]. The [Ts] on the turn was a little help for I_DESTROY_U, but the [9d] on the river ended his tournament in 4th place ($47,188,81). All three of the remaining players had held the chip lead at some point, but davdav23 and lbh26 were both chasing sirpietah when three-handed play began.

Davdav23 and lbh26 took turns doubling through each other with pocket queens, but after going back and forth three-handed for a while, lbh26 found himself dangerously short and moving all in almost every hand. The end finally came when sirpietah raised preflop with [Kh]-[Jd] and was called from the small blind by davdav23 holding [9s]-[8s]. Lbh26 moved all in over the top with [Qs]-[9h], and both of his opponents called. Sirpietah and davdav23 checked down the board of [6c]-[6d]-[As]-[4c]-[10c], and when the dust settled sirpietah's king-high was good enough to bust lbh26 in 3rd place ($68,904.01).

As heads up play was about to commence, the international flavor of PokerStars came into play as talks of a deal kicked off. With sirpietah holding the chip lead and speaking English, the need for a French translator came into play to translate for davdav23. After a few moments, a French-speaking host came into the chat and deal talks were able to begin. Once the language barriers were battered down, it didn't take long for a deal to be struck as sirpietah locked up $111,692.93 and davdav23 took down a guaranteed $106,634.06. That left $10,000 to play for as well as the TLB points for the winner.
As sirpietah said just before heads up play kicked off, "flipping for 10K." It was certainly true on the last hand of the tourney, when the two survivors got it all in on a classic coin flip to $10,000.

Congratulations to sirpietah, davdav23 and everyone who cashed in the Sunday Warm-Up!

Perplexed winner confused28 takes down Sunday Warm-up

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgWith the bright lights of SCOOP behind us, the Sunday Warm-up churned its usual $750,000 guarantee busting crowd this evening. With 4,077 players lined up and 585 of those going home with a little more than their buy-in we would take under ten hours this evening to go from start to finish.

JACKPOT786 couldn't line up the reels against confused28 as he pushed his remaining 854K in chips from the cutoff with [Ks] [3c]. confused28 was waiting in the big blind with [Kc] [Ad] and after a [Ac] [Tc] [5c] [Js] [7d] board spilled out, the final nine poured in to play for the big $128,017.81 first place prize.

Seat 1: YouSoNaive (3395027 in chips)
Seat 2: GripDsNutz (4628338 in chips)
Seat 3: Gags30 (4642387 in chips)
Seat 4: Pommy Blez (3669470 in chips)
Seat 5: Big Huni (3525778 in chips)
Seat 6: homanga (3353488 in chips)
Seat 7: Artanis11 (3353000 in chips)
Seat 8: confused28 (11832287 in chips)
Seat 9: Tagult (2370225 in chips)

With blinds starting off at 80,000/160,000 ante 16,000 all players were sitting above ten big blinds but the short stacks had some work to do to catch chip leader confused28. YouSoNaive took some early hits and was whittled down to 1.8 million when [Td][Kh] looked good enough to gamble with. An open push from one off the cutoff to win the blinds, but Gags30 was sitting on the button with [Qs][Ad] and made the call. The slight advantage gap for Gags30 turned into a bigger one after an ace fell on the flop, and held up thru the [7h] [Ah] [3c] [Jc] [8d] board. YouSoNaive will have to settle tonight for ninth place ($6,523.21).

Big Huni was looking for a big ten to go into the [Th][Ts] showing in his hand as Huni's stack of 2.4 million was slid into the middle from middle position. GripDsNutz took ahold of his 4.6 million chips and did likewise with [As][Kh] from the small blind as Gags30 gave up his big blind. Once again, the ace flopped, and also turned for trips, but the [7d] [Ah] [2h] [Ad] [6c] board would not produce that big ten for Big Huni and a big $10,192.51 was shipped for the eighth place finish.

Immediately after the break, with the blinds rising to 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000, another players took leave from the table. Gags30 took one look at the pocket nines [9c] [9s] and the 435K chip raise from Tagult and announced all-in. Easy call for Tagult's pocket kings [Ks][Kc] to make a 7.5 million chip pot. No love for Gags30 on the [Qs] [Td] [Ac] [2s] [Ad] board, as the kings held and shipped $18,346.51 in the direction of Gags30 for seventh place.

homanga's stack took a beating when [7d] [Ac] couldn't get past the pocket nines [9s] [9d] of Artanis11. Five hands later with just 848K in chips left facing a raise from GripDsNutz, homanga decided [Th][Kd] was good enough to call. Indeed it was because GripDsNutz was only holding [Tc][Jd]. The flop [8c] [3h] [9c] would provide the underdog with an open-ended straight draw, the turned [8d] was safe, but the [Qd] on the river pushed the 2.4 million chip pot to GripDsNutz and pushed homanga out of the tournament in sixth place.

Just four hands later the biggest pot of the tournament took place with Artanis11 all-in against the chip leader confused28. Watch the 15 million chip pot play out below with the tournament chip lead on the line:

RSS readers click through to see replay

The nines were lucky against homanga, but not versus the pocket jacks of confused28 as Artanis11 left in fifth place ($34,654.51) and confused28's stack got a very healthy bump up to nearly 24 million chips.

From this point on confused28 would go on a tear looking for that six figure prize. Starting with taking down Tagult in fourth place, confused28 would weld that big stack by starting off with a min raise to 600K, Tagult on the button holding [Ac] [Jh] shoved for 3.1 million. With an extra 15 million behind, confused28 decided to gamble with [Kd][9s]. A good roll of the dice for the befuddled one, as confused28 would catch a nine of the turn as the river produced no ace or jack on the [8c] [Qd] [8d] [9c] [5h] board. Fourth place and $46,885.51 headed Tagult's way after confused28 wouldn't stop here...

... as eight hands later confused28 would benefit from a very naughty river and would spank Pommy Blez out of the tournament. Watch the dirty ace hit the river and crack Pommy Blez's pocket kings [Kc] [Ks] below:

Third place for Pommy Blez and a $67,270.51 bad beat story, as short but action filled heads-up play contest was about to begin.

confused28 would start heads-up play with a sizable chip lead shown below:

Seat 2: GripDsNutz (7070152 in chips)
Seat 8: confused28 (33699848 in chips)

GripDsNutz would find a little opening while shoving [Js] [9s] about ten hands into heads-up play and out racing confused28's [7c] [Ah] on the [9c] [3s] [2s] [8d] [Kh] board for a 14 million chip pot.

14 million to 26 million after that all-in would be as close as GripDsNutz would get, as confused28's aggression would drill GripDsNutz back down to a 12 million to 28 million chip disadvantage setting up the final hand below:

RSS readers click through to see replay

This time the ace high would hold up, and confused28's run thru the final table was complete taking the chip lead from wire to wire for the win and $128,017.81 as GripDsNutz gripped his newly found $95,401.81 for the runner-up finish.

Be sure to check out the replay and commentary on PokerStars.TV's replay show which will expose all the hole cards for inquiring minds.

Shane261966 comes from behind in dramatic Sunday Warm-Up win!

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

sunday-warmup-promo1.jpgSunday was a banner day for PokerStars action, with an LAPT event in Argentina, an EPT event in Italy, and blowout crowds in the guarantees tournaments. The Sunday Warm-Up drew an impressive 3,859 players, and by the time it was all said and done shane261966 had bested BoyArgentina in a thrilling heads up match that all hinged on a huge coin toss. But I might be getting ahead of myself...
Warmup 4.19.09.jpg
Short stack sndk 100 did a good job of picking a spot to get all his chips in the middle, shipping it all in on a [Ts]-[8h]-[Jh] flop holding [8s]-[8d] for the flopped set. His only action came from BoyArgentina, who showed [Ac]-[Qs] for the up and down straight draw. The [4s] on the turn was a blank for both players, but the river brought the [9s] to fill BoyArgentina's straight and send sndk 100 to the rail in 9th place ($6,637.48).

ILIOS72 busted in 8th place when he moved all in over the top of grasbeer's preflop raise with [As]-[Qc] only to find grasbeer dominating him with [Ah]-[Kc]. The board ran out a fairly standard [Th]-[7c]-[5s]-[3h]-[7h], and ILIOS72 was done. The $9,647.50 should provide a decent salve to the bustout wound, however.

BoyArgentina took the chip lead early in the final table, and padded his lead even further a big confrontation that saw TranquilMind come up short and pick up $15,436.00 for his 7th-place finish. BoyArgentina wasn't done though; busting s00tedj0kers in 6th place just moments later to pad his chip lead even further. All the money went in preflop, with s00tedj0kers showing [7d]-[7s] to BoyArgentina's [Tc]-[Th]. Without a lot of help s00tedj0kers' tournament would be over, and that help was nowhere in sight as the board ran out [Qd]-[3d]-[3h]-[Ks]-[9h]. When the dust settled, s00tedj0kers was done, picking up $23,154 for 6th place.

When you're running good, you're running good. And there was no question that midway through the final table, BoyArgentina was running good. Even when he got his hand caught in the cookie jar by WildDogo after he raised preflop with [8c]-[6c] things worked out okay. WildDogo moved all in over the top with [Qh]-[Kh] and BoyArgentina thought for a moment before making the call. The call paid off right on the flop, as it came down [4h]-[6d]-[9s] to give BoyArgentina a pair and the lead in the hand. WildDogo picked up a straight draw when the turn brought the [Ts], but the river paired the ten and WildDogo was done in 5th place ($30,872).

Grasbeer lost most of his stack in a big had with shane261966 where he flopped trips holding A-10 but shane261966 flopped a boat with pocket sixes on a board of 10-6-10-x-x. Grasbeer never recovered and got the last few of his chips in a couple of hands later with action from both shane261966 and eom2000. After an initial feeler bet from eom2000 on the [As]-[9h]-[Ks] flop, the live players checked it down, with shane261966 showing [Ac]-[Qh] for top pair, enough to drag the pot and send grasbeer home in 4th place, good for a $38,590 payday. With that big couple of hands, the field was three-handed and shane261966 had taken over the chip lead, with a slight edge over BoyArgentina.

After a length run of three-handed play, BoyArgentina took back the chip lead in dramatic fashion, busting eom2000 in3rd place ($46,308) in the process. BoyArgentina started the hand with a button raise, which shane261966 called. Eom2000 moved all in over the top with [As]-[2d], and BoyArgentina snap-called with [Ad]-[Td]. The flop came down a singularly unhelpful [6s]-[8h]-[5d], and when the [Tc] hit the turn, eom2000 was drawing dead. BoyArgentina scooped the massive pot when the river came the [Kh] and took the chip lead into heads up play.

The two players fenced for a while, looking for openings and passing the chip lead back and forth, but in the end it came down to a coin flip. The players traded raises back and forth preflop until all the money went into the middle, with BoyArgentina having shane261966 slightly covered. BoyArgentina showed A-K for big slick, and shane261966 tabled pocket fives, hoping to find a little magic in "presto." And indeed, as the board ran out queen high (two of them, as a matter of fact) shane261966 made almost all of BoyArgentina's stack disappear.

With that hand, shane261966 took the commanding chip lead and it was just a couple of hands later that the last of BoyArgentina's stack went into the middle for the last time. He open-shoved preflop with [8d]-[6c] and shane261966 called with [Qs]-[8c]. Shane261966 led the whole way, and when the board ran out [7c]-[2s]-[Jc]-[9c]-[Ac] both players made the four-flush but shane's was higher and BoyArgentina had to settle for 2nd place and $69,462. Shane261966 came from behind heads up to claim the win and the $100,334 top prize. Congrats to our final table players and to all the 585 players who cashed in the Sunday Warm-Up!

Playgirl555 toys with final table in Sunday Warm-up win

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpgA slightly smaller crowd then the usual guarantee busting stampede showed up this evening at the $750,000 guaranteed Sunday Warm-up. 3,622 players meant PokerStars would be footing the bill to assure a six-figure $101,250.00 first place prize. 540 players walked away with at least $375.00 but the final table would be feasting on the below figures tonight:

1. $101,250.00
2. $71,250.00
3. $48,750.00
4. $38,625.00
5. $30,750.00
6. $23,250.00
7. $15,750.00
8. $9,750.00
9. $6,750.00

cnew27 is coming off a decent SCOOP series final tabling Event #6-High buy-in (winning $28,800) and chopping up the same Low buy-in event for another $28K in the same night. He'll be joined at the final table tonight by the below players:

Seat 1: nolan24 (5906919 in chips)
Seat 2: canny86 (2385567 in chips)
Seat 3: polonezas (10051523 in chips)
Seat 4: Playgirl555 (3636835 in chips)
Seat 5: bonya37 (3284638 in chips)
Seat 6: enjoyin_nyc (1718897 in chips)
Seat 7: cnew27 (1751638 in chips)
Seat 8: Haas (2158874 in chips)
Seat 9: Try__An__Hit (5325109 in chips)

Just four hands into the final table after eight and a half hours of play enjoyin_nyc had reasons to enjoy his [Jd][Ac] as shown by the hand played out below against nolan24's pocket rockets [As][Ah]:

RSS readers click through to see replay

With that 3.6 million chip pot, enjoyin_nyc got to enjoy a pay jump from being the short stack. The pay jump came at the expense of Haas who open-shoved his 1.8 million chips with blinds at 80,000/160,000 ante 16,000 into the middle nine hands after enjoyin_nyc's double up but was called by nolan24 sitting on the button with [Qh] [Ah]. Haas' [Js] [Ac] was in bad shape and never threatened on the [2s] [Ts] [6d] [Ad] [2h] board making him the first casualty at the final table ($6,750.00).

After several hands of aborted steal attempts and causally mucking preflop, bonya37 was ground down to just 655,638 chips with blinds at 100,000/200,000 ante 20,000 and holding a pair of ducks [2s] [2c] in the cutoff. He would push those chips with the twos and be met with an overshove by cnew27 in the small blind holding fours [4d] [4h]. Neither player improved on the [5s] [5h] [Ah] [Qc] [Tc] board and bonya37 said "see ya" to the table in eighth place ($9,750.00).

polonezas came to the final table as the chip leader and was eerily silent compared to the aggressive cnew27 and Try__An__Hit, but made his presence known to nolan24 when the short stacked nolan24 open-shoved from the cutoff for his remaining 1.4 million chips and polonezas made the call from the small blinds holding pocket nines [9s] [9d]. nolan24's [Js] [Kh] were glad to see a race for the 3.3 million chip pot but were unable to take it down on the [8h] [As] [6h] [Qh] [Qc] board as the Simpson's fan would leave Springfield with an extra $15,750.00 for a seventh place finish.

Playgirl555 would go on a nice heater that started with a double up off polonezas, a blind steal, and then showed canny86 how to race. canny86 re-raised Playgirl555's UTG 550,000 chip raise to 1.25 million and Playgirl555 answered with a shove that would put canny86's tournament life on the line. Holding pocket queens [Qh] [Qc], canny86 made the call to see the race against Playgirl555's [Kd] [As] for the nearly seven million chip pot. The [Tc] [Th] [9s] flop was safe for canny86, but the [Ac] on the turn was not. [5s] on the river did not turn things back around as canny86 was well... 86'd in sixth place ($23,250.00).

Try__An__Hit tried to hit against the wrong player as the heater Playgirl555 was on never died down as shown by this hand below:

RSS readers click through to see replay

Try__An__Hit did hit the flop hard, but with an extra pip Playgirl555 took down the ten million chip pot as Try__An__Hit was out in fifth place ($30,750.00).

The wavy chip stack of cnew27 finally met its end at the hand of polonezas. With the blinds sitting at 150,000/300,000 ante 30,000 and only 1.6 million in chips left cnew27 would shove from the cutoff holding [Qc] [Jc] but polonezas had pocket tens [Tc] [Td] on the button and overshoved to shut out the blinds. They would fold and cnew27 would watch his tournament end in fourth place ($38,625.00) after the [Ks] [8s] [6c] [4c] [8d] board failed to pair his queen or jack.

With the lone dissenter in chop talks gone, the remaining three made quick work of putting the deal that left $10,000 on the table for the Sunday Warm-up champion:

Playgirl555: $77,387.70
polonezas: $67,087.34
enjoyin_nyc: $66,774.97

polonezas' stack took a couple of hits on the way to his final hand against enjoyin_nyc. After enjoyin_nyc completed the small blind, polonezas check his option to see the [3c] [Kc] [2h] flop. enjoying_nyc would check as polonezas led out for 800,000 and enjoyin_nyc snapped into action with a 9,999,999 chip check-raise. polonezas would pause for a moment before calling off his remaining 4.4 million chips holding [Qs] [3d] good for middle pair, but not as good as enjoying_nyc's [5h] [Kh] top pair. [Ad] on the turn and [Tc] on the river did not help. The beginning final table chip leader polonezas left with $67,087.34 in third place after the chop.

Heads-up play would start as a near dead heat as shown by the chip counts below...

Seat 4: Playgirl555 (18637804 in chips)
Seat 6: enjoyin_nyc (17582196 in chips)

... but enjoyin_nyc would strike on the first hand taking a eight million chip pot, outkicking Playgirl555's [8d] [9d] flopped top pair of nines with [9s] [Ah] on the [2h] [6c] [9c] [4d] [3h] board.

The two would go on for a lengthy heads-up duel, but Playgirl555 would catch fire again, eventually taking a 6:1 chip lead going into the final hand of the tournament shown below:

Gabba Gabba Hey! Gabegnagare wins Sunday Warm-Up

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

sunday-warmup-promo.jpgWith all the SCOOP action going on at PokerStars right now you might have forgotten that the weekly Sunday Warm-Up was running. But PokerStars players didn't forget; 4,107 of you showed up and made sure that this week's $750,000 guarantee turned into a prize pool worth $821,400.

All 630 players who eventually cashed today at some point had their eyes on the first prize worth $105,960.60, but by 9:01 p.m. ET there were only 10 left with a shot at the six-figure payday. Once Gabegnagare flopped a set of deuces to take out pistecaloze, the bubble had burst and the final table lineup was set:

Seat 1: hoodini10 (2,806,383)
Seat 2: Brett Favre (1,423,770)
Seat 3: HGoblin (4,596,504)
Seat 4: manitu895 (2,434,278)
Seat 5: jasondvk (3,051,036)
Seat 6: Gabegnagare (5,763,506)
Seat 7: xMillet6La (6,995,409)
Seat 8: Kameleont (8,010,731)
Seat 9: JohnnyDepp (5,897,383)

Sunday Warmup FT.jpg

For the first 19 hands, most pots went to the most aggressive player, and a good portion of the time that player was hoodini10. He picked up enough uncontested pots to double his stack before butting heads with xMillet6La. With the blinds at 80,000/160,000 and a 16,000 ante, xMillet6La opened for 480,000 in second position and his only caller was hoodini10 in the hijack seat. The [Ac] [Ks] [7s] flop saw the action go bet-call for 640,000, but when the [Tc] came on the turn and xMillet6La bet 1,760,000, it was decision time for hoodini10. The bet represented half his remaining stack, and he requested time. Eventually he shoved with [As] [Qs] and found himself up against xMillet6La's two pair with [Ah] [7d]. But the river was a lovely [Kc], giving hoodini10 the escape hatch he'd been looking for and vaulting him into the chip lead with almost 9.8 million.

xMillet6La made up for some of his loss on the next hand and eliminated the first player of the final nine. Brett Favre heaved a Hail Mary before the flop with [As] [Kc], three-betting his short stack all-in after an opening raise from Kameleont, but xMillet6La's [Tc] [Td] held up on the [6h] [2s] [Qc] [Js] [7c] board to send Brett Favre packing in ninth place with $6,653.34.

Despite getting some chips back, xMillet6La never fully recovered from his thrashing at the hands of hoodini10. Down to just over 2.2 million, he picked the wrong time for a late position steal; he shoved holding [5s] [4s] only to run into JohnnyDepp's [Ah] [Ac] No miracle board came and the unlucky xMillet6La left in eighth place for a $10,267.50 score.

JohnnyDepp found himself in another good spot about an orbit later when manitu895 shoved for 1,687,056 before the flop, waking up with [Qs] [Qd] on the button against his opponent's [Ad] [4s]. The board ran out [6d] [Jc] [7d] [Js] [6h] and manitu895 claimed $16,428 for his seventh place finish.

By this point the six remaining players were all within three million chips of each other and most of them took turns jockeying for position with three- and even four-bets. Then HGoblin would go down in two consecutive hands and thin the field further.

RSS readers click through to see replays

HGoblin took home $24,642 for his sixth place performance, and Gabegnagare held the chip lead (11,940,478) with just five players left. But the situation changed in the time it took for him to flop top pair with [Kh] [Js], call hoodini10's all-in raise on the flop for over 5.5 million, and fail to outrun [Ad] [Ah]. Just like that, hoodini10 was back in front with a stack worth 12,824,684.

Gabegnagare doubled back up on the next hand to pull almost even with hoodini10 again, but the magic man pulled another brilliant escape a few moments later to vault back ahead. With the big blind still at 300,000, Kameleont shoved all-in before the flop for 4,319,599 holding [Jc] [Jd] and hoodini10 made the call holding [6c] [6s]. The [8h] [Kh] [Kd] was safe for Kameleont, but a cruel [6d] fell on the turn to leave him with two outs. Neither materialized and he was out in fifth place for $32,856.

hoodini10, meanwhile, was up to almost 18 million and began to lean on the rest of the table at every opportunity. Gabegnagare and JohnnyDepp fought back on occasion to keep their stack hovering near 8 million, but jasondvk didn't find as many opportunities. As the 150,000/300,000/30,000 level neared an end he found himself down to just under 2.2 million and decided to go with [3c] [3d]. Gabegnagare called with [Ad] [5s] and the board ran out [Qh] [Ac] [Kh] [Tc] [9h], sending jasondvk out in fourth place with $41,070 for his efforts.

That left three contenders, but the trio wouldn't last long. On the very next hand, JohnnyDepp opened for 900,000, only to find himself facing a decision for his remaining 6.25 million chips courtesy of hoodini10's all-in re-raise; JohnnyDepp elected to make the call with [Ac] [8d] but was up against hoodini10's [Ah] [Th]. The underdog never caught up on the [4d] [3c] [5c] [As] [4s] board, sending JohnnyDepp home in third place with $49,284.

The two players who had most dictated the pace of play now found themselves facing each other for the top prize, with these chip counts:

Seat 1: hoodini10 (29,967,490)
Seat 6: Gabegnagare (11,102,510)

hoodini10 came out of the gates aggressive, but Gabegnagare seemed determined to match his opponent's firepower bullet for bullet despite facing a shortage of ammunition. He extracted almost 1.4 million before check-raising the flop on the first hand of heads-up play and took down another 980,000 with a pre-flop three-bet before running into a trouble spot in this pot:

With that fortunate king on the river, Gabegnagare found himself right back in the thick of things. hoodini10 would pull even again almost immediately, but seven hands later Gabegnagare would take the lead for good with an all-in re-raise on the flop that hoodini10 chose not to contest. Then came the hand that closed the tournament out.

hoodini10 opened for 900,005 on the button and Gabegnagare flat-called in the big blind to see a flop of [5s] [Th] [Qh]. Gabegnagare checked and then called a 1,355,000 bet from hoodini10 to see the turn come the [6s]. Gabegnagare checked once again, and hoodini bet 2,855,000; this time, though, Gabegnagare chose to check-raise for the minimum. hoodini10 requested time and eventually shoved all-in for just over 16 million. That was just what Gabegnagare had hoped to see: he quickly called with [Tc] [6d] for two pair against hoodini10's [Qc] [2d] for top pair. The [Jc] on the river sealed the $105,960.60 win for Gabegnagare, while hoodini10 settled for the runner-up purse of $73,926.

Big congratulations go to all the final table players for earning their way to the top of yet another monster Sunday Warm-Up field, with the biggest of all reserved for the champion, Gabegnagare. With SCOOP running for the next week here on PokerStars he'll have plenty of chances to put that money to work replicating today's six-figure success.

Bundy604 comes from behind in thrilling Sunday Warm-Up Win!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

sunday-warmup-promo.jpgThis week's edition of the Sunday Warm-Up saw the prize pool creep ever closer to that whopping $1 million mark, with 4,722 entrants building a $944,400 prize pool. Some 10+ hours after kickoff, the final table ended after one of best heads up comebacks this writer has ever seen. When all was said and done, bundy604 came from a massive chip deficit to draw even in chips with Eham5 and get an even-money chop for his hard work, then take down the $10,000 the players left on the table for the eventual champion, too!

Play was cagey for the first few orbits, but eventually the blinds and antes caught up with the short stacks, and someone had to make a stand. After seeing his stack dwindle to the shortest of the short, scarer moved all in preflop from the small blind with [Ah]-[Kc]. PiKappRaider had limped in from middle position, and made the call with [9c]-[9h]. The stereotypical coin toss - two overcards versus a pocket pair, and as the board ran out [Qh]-[4s]-[7h]-[Th]-[4d] PiKappRaider's pocket nines held up to send Scarer to the rail, the first casualty of the final table, done in 9th place for $7,366.32.

It took a while for the next elimination to come along, as the remaining players picked their spots and took down relatively uncontested pots. After a few more orbits, homanga raised from the cutoff and skrabukes moved in over the top from the small blind. Homanga insta-called with [Ks]-[Kh], and skrabukes was looking for help with [As]-[8s]. The flop came down [3h]-[7c]-[6d], and skrabukes would need running straight cards to stay alive. The [9c] on the turn was one of those, but the river brought the [4h] instead of a five or ten, and skrabukes finished up in 8th place ($11,332.80).

In a moderately gross case of a cooler getting re-coolered, HustlerGrune busted in 7th place ($18,888.00) after getting all his money in spectacularly ahead. Here's what it looked like when it all went down. HustlerGrune raised all in from the button with [Ac]-[Ad], and bundy604 moved in over the top with Ks-Kc. The suspense went out of the hand right on the flop, as it came down [9s]-[Jc]-[Kh] to give bundy604 a set. The turn and river ran out [4c]-[3s], and HustlerGrune hustled off to collect his payout.

Because bustouts come not as single spies, but battalions, it took more time for me to write up the 7th place bustout than it did for 6th and 5th places to bust. First, PiKappRaider went down in 6th place when he shipped it in preflop from late position with [Kc]-[9s]. He got action from Eham5, who made the call from the big blind with [Kh]-[Qh]. The flop was no help to either player as it came down [5c]-[8d]-[7h], and the [4c] on the turn changed nothing. PiKappRaider was looking for a nine or a six on the river to save his tournament, but it was the [Qd] that fell instead, giving Eham5 top pair and sending PiKappRaider to the rail in 6th place ($28,332).

Because coming from behind with pocket kings is not enough big starting hands for one final table for some people, bundy604 just had to pick up another monster. It's easy to defend your big blind when you know your opponent is behind, so when profontaine raised from the button with [Qd]-[Td] it was a simple decision for bundy604 to call with [Ah]-[As]. The flop had potential for profontaine, as he paired the queen on the [Qc]-[4h]-[3d] board. The [6d] on the turn made things more interesting, as profontaine could win with any queen, ten or diamond. But he couldn't win with the [7s], so when that hit the river, profontaine hit the rail, picking up a very respectable $37,776 for 5th place.

Scarface0908 was the 4th-place finisher, getting the last of his chips in preflop with [5d]-[6s]. He was actually the last player to the dance, with homanga opening for a raise, then Eham5 moving all in over the top, and scarface0908 calling all in for less. Homanga got out of the way, and Eham5 showed his [9c]-[9d]. The flop was no help to anyone as it came down [Qc]-[Td]-[Qd], but the [5c] on the turn gave scarface a little hope, as he could stay alive with another five on the river. But in the end it was the better hand that won, as the [9h] on the river filled up Eham5 and sent scarface0908 home in 4th place ($47,220).
There was some brief discussion of a deal when play went three-handed, but nothing could be agreed on, so the three survivors played it out.

The turning point of the final table was certainly this huge confrontation between homanga and Eham5:

After that huge swing, homanga doubled through bundy604, but it wasn't long until this hand went down:

Homanga went from chip lead to third place in the span of two big hands, but he still picked up a nice $56,286.24 consolation prize for his third-place finish.

With such a huge chip lead, the outcome seemed almost academic as Eham5 went into heads up play with 40 million in chips to bundy604's 6.4 million, but anything can happen in poker, and bundy604 refused to give up, picking up pots here and there and dodging Eham5's aggression as best he could. It took a little while, but bundy604 managed a double up to get right back into the match, then another to take the chip lead.

After a couple of back and forth hands, the two players realized that the chip stacks had become very close to even, so they decided on an even chop, which left $10,000 on the table for the winner. That chop came to a whopping $97,703.50 each with $10,000 left over for the winner.

After a brief break while the chop details were worked out, the players came back for the final duel. In the end, it came down to an ace against a pair.

Congratulations to bundy604 for taking down the Sunday Warm-Up and the $107,703.50 top prize. Eham5 put up a great fight, but eventually succumbed in second place for $97,703.50.
