WSOP Event #7: Germans shine for PokerStars

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

wsop2009_thn.gifThe second no limit event of the series, the $1,500, began yesterday with another huge field - 2,791 players packed into the Amazon and two other rooms for a shot at WSOP glory. Among the masses, we had a fair few Team PokerStars players, but only two survived to make the money when the bubble broke - after what seemed like an age - just a few moments ago.

Team PokerStars Germany players Sandra Naujoks, the EPT Dortmund champion, and Florian Langmann made it to the last 297, ensuring a payday guaranteed to be at least $2,743. That's small change to these two, who will be aiming much higher as they try to make a deep run to the final table tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the $2,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball continues over in one corner of the Amazon Room. 147 intrepid souls paid out to try and make the worst hand possible in one of poker's rarer forms.

We know Barry Greenstein likes to Tweet, and our photographer Joe Giron caught this moment when the Bear was sending another update to his legions of fans...

Other Team PokerStars Pros in the field, now down to 27 with the money kicking in at 21st, are Vanessa Rousso and, until a few moments ago at least, George Danzer.

This event's final table will play out tomorrow.

Kicking off today was the three-day $1,500 No Limit Hold'em six-handed event. Here sits Team PokerStars Pro Ylon Schwartz, who busted soon after sitting down in the sister $1,500 no limit event yesterday.

We were pleased to bump into him looking a happier man today, and no wonder...

"I'm really warming up now," he said. "I made it to the first break this time!"

Joining Schwartz, who final tabled the WSOP Main Event last year, are Maridu Mayrinck, Alex Gomes and Gavin Griffin.
